Louisiana Water Innovation Studio Marks First Major Success with Global FloodID Partnership

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Water Innovation Studio of Louisiana has reached its first major milestone with the transition of FloodID, a flood information and decision-support technology, to ICEYE, one of the world’s leading Earth observation companies. The new partnership creates a pathway to expand FloodID’s reach, bringing better, faster, and more localized flood information to more decision makers working to protect lives, property, and communities.

Achieved less than four months after the Studio’s launch, the milestone demonstrates how Louisiana Innovation, a division of Louisiana Economic Development, and The Water Institute are advancing local research and technology from real-world testing to broader deployment and global impact. It is an early and tangible example of how Louisiana’s experience confronting complex water challenges generates the solutions, tools and partnerships that strengthen communities and industries far beyond the state.

Developed through years of applied research and operational testing, FloodID provides predictive flood intelligence that helps communities better prepare for and respond to flood events. The platform combines advanced predictive modeling with operational decision-support tools, enabling emergency managers, public agencies, and other stakeholders to better anticipate flooding before it occurs.

As part of the transition to ICEYE, the technology will gain access to global satellite infrastructure, technical capabilities, and international customer networks, expanding its impact far beyond Louisiana.

ICEYE currently delivers Earth observation products used worldwide for flood response and disaster management. Integrating FloodID’s forecasting capabilities with satellite-based flood monitoring has the potential to create a more comprehensive flood intelligence platform—forecasting what is coming, monitoring events as they unfold, and helping assess impacts after a disaster.

Launched in March, the Water Innovation Studio was created to identify promising water technologies, accelerate their path to market and strengthen Louisiana’s position as a global leader in water innovation. FloodID is the first technology to emerge from the Studio’s innovation pipeline.
